4 Charges Kim Kardashian’s Paris Robbers Could Face
The story that shook social media and Hollywood is getting an analysis from a criminal lawyer: What charges could be pressed on the thieves who held Kim Kardashian at gunpoint?
First I have to start out with the facts of the case at hand.
In Early October, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint inside her Sky Penthouse in Paris by men dressed in police uniforms. A little bit past 2 a.m., they entered the Hôtel de Pourtalès (it isn’t really a hotel- it is a luxury guesthouse that hundreds of shady people in Paris know about) on bike, in groups, for a total of 6 men. After using the front gate key code that hadn’t been changed in over 6 years, they strong-armed the concierge by his neck and had him lead them to the room where Kardashian was staying.
Once inside the penthouse, they pulled her out of bed and put a gun in her face. Her wrists and ankles were bound while the thieves repeatedly demanded for her to hand over the cash. When she started to scream for help, one thief taped her mouth close.
They were able to steal an estimated $11.2 million dollars-worth of jewelry from Kardashian, which included a 20-carat diamond ring and a jewelry box full of other precious items. All in all, the thieves were there for 49 minutes, and escaped on biked after pulling off one of the most astounding heists ever in Paris.
Now, with these facts that we know, here are 4 charges Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbers could face.
Assault and Breaking & Entering
Criminally, those that perpetrated these acts could face a number of charges from French law enforcement. From the reports I have read it looks as if the entry into her room was facilitated through force and coercion of a concierge so in addition to assault charges upon that person, these suspects could face some breaking and entering charges into her room.
Clearly they assaulted Ms. Kardashian-West by terrorizing her at gunpoint and tied her up. That coupled with robbing her of that large amount of valuable items is the most serious of charges the French could bring.
Gun Possession
I am not an expert of Parisian gun laws, but there very well could be some charges brought just based on carrying a weapon.
Civil Action Against the Hotel
Now on what lawyers call the civil side, Ms. Kardashian-West may have an action against the resort or hotel company for monetary damages for her stolen items, and her emotional distress and trauma that was caused by this incident. As noted in the story, the access code to the building had not been changed in some six years. Furthermore, if it is shown that it was indeed an “inside job” involving an employee of the company, then that company could be liable to her for damages. For example they could be sued for their failure to maintain a safe environment for Ms. Kardashian by not having a more secure system in place as well as negligent hiring and or negligent retention of an employee or employees whose complicity or negligence may have directly caused this incident to occur.
If in fact suspects are identified and arrested, there will be a long drawn out legal process that, for better or worse, is sure to capture the world’s attention.
Bonus
There are speculations looming that this kind of heist could not be pulled off without some inside help. Some sources are quite confused as to how the concierge was able to lead the thieves right to her room and open the door so easily. They claim the security protocols in place simply don’t allow things like this to happen.
If this is true, this case will get a whole lot messier and the list of charges and people involved will grow substantially.
I will be keeping track of this as it unfolds and will update you with my analysis. Stay tuned.
